Katie Dunbar received her MFA in Visual Studies from the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and BA in Fine Arts from the University of California Santa Cruz. During her creative career-path, she discovered backpacking, and a deep love for natural wilderness and moving through time slowly. Within the past decade, she walked the entire 2,650 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, Montana and New Mexico lengths on the Continental Divide, The Wonderland Trail (circumnavigating Mt. Rainier (counter and clockwise)), the Timberline Trail (circumnavigating Mt. Hood), Wildwood Trail, and hundreds of additional miles in various backcountry lands. Dunbar's practice has become about sharing these experiences. By confronting and reviewing visual narratives of these moments, she has centered her calling around natural environments, sustainability, conservation, and the wild community outdoors.
